How To Improve Your Website To Get Better Results

In this day and age it is considered strange if your business doesn’t have a website and with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic – for some businesses, no website = no business at all. Let’s say you’ve launched your business site, the next question is how can you improve your website to get better results?

With the digital world taking over the business world, a great business website can be one of your biggest sales channels opportunities. If you already have a website for your business but aren’t getting the traction you would like from it, you might not need to start over from scratch to get your performing for you.

Here are a few simple ways to improve your websites to get better results:

Build It and They Will Come

I think we all know that is not true – unless of course you’re Kevin Costner building a baseball field!

There’s no point spending thousands of dollars to have a website designed and developed if no one knows it exists.  With over 1.7 billion plus websites, how are your customers going to find yours?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) are two of the most important marketing tools to improve your website for any website owner.

Where is your site ranking in Google?  If you are not on Page 1 for at least your brand name, then you are definitely missing out on website traffic from searches.  If your business or brand name is a common name then it may be more difficult to rank on page 1 but not impossible (just look at Apple!).  Make use of free tools like Google My Business to get a free business listing and location map (even if you don’t have a physical store) making it easy for customers to find you.  On mobile devices, these listings often show first.

As well as ranking organically through SEO, you could improve your website by paying for some ads so to help you rank better and get more customers.  Google Ads, also known as Pay Per Click (PPC), is an effective way to get your business ranking on page 1 for at least your brand name.  This is especially helpful if your brand name is a common name or if your competitors have a big budget.

Of course, SEO and SEM are not only good for ranking your brand name.  They are also great for promoting your products and services.  These two approaches do require expertise and can take up a substantial amount of time to implement but just these two marketing tactics alone will immediately and drastically improve the success of your website and your business.

Sometimes Less is More

Your page’s aesthetics and how user-friendly it is are factors that will determine how many people click and then stay on your site to keep exploring your products, services and information.

How many websites have you seen with a big slider at the top of the page that automatically moves to the next slide, usually before you’ve finished reading?  Maybe your website has one of these conversion killers???  You want to keep distractions to a minimum.  Don’t have lots of moving parts and images whizzing around on your website.  Keep it simple.

Studies have found that the less navigation that is on your home page, the better your site performs and while you do need to be able to show your users who you are, what you do and what they can do on your website, keeping your web pages simple, elegant and fresh will leave a lasting impression while ensuring that using your website is easy to use. Don’t let bad website design be the reason people don’t buy from you.

Page Speed/Site Loading Times Could Be the Death of Your Site

In a world of instant gratification, people have grown impatient, especially when it comes to browsing the internet. Page loading times can determine whether users stay on your site long enough to even view your products or find out what your business has to offer. To improve your website, you should be auditing your website’s performance on a regular basis, specifically focusing on the load times and site speed.

There are a lot of free tools you can use to test the performance of your website and most tell you what you need to do to improve.

The main tools we use are GTmetrix and Google’s Pagespeed Insights

We recently worked with Hear For You to improve the page speed of their desktop and mobile sites.  You can read the results here.

Device Compatibility is Key

The digital world consists of many different devices that one individual might switch between in just a couple of hours. With almost every person owning a laptop, tablet and/or mobile phone, it is vital that your site is compatible with all of these devices. Avoiding page designs for large monitors and complex features that may not be supported by smaller devices will improve your website.

With the rollout of Google’s Mobile-First Indexing which basically means, Google searches your website for the mobile version of content and uses that for indexing and ranking.  That means, if your website content is mobile-friendly then is has a better chance of ranking well in Google and that means you have a better chance of the people searching for your products and services finding your website.

It may seem complicated but with these 4 tactics, you can improve the results and success of your business website and in turn, improve the success of your business.
